The Children’s Link Society is
governed and staffed primarily by parents and family
members of children and adults with special needs.
We know firsthand that the best resource for a
family facing the challenge of locating services and
finding assistance for their child with special
needs is another family who has “been there”.
As we recognize the value of connection for parents to
parents, we want to encourage opportunities for this
connection to occur.
For
families who live in the Calgary area, we offer
coffee socials in various locations in the city and
surrounding areas. Please refer to the
Coffee Socials
page of our website for dates and times. Our family
events are a welcomed opportunities for families to
participate in fun activities where all belong and
are included. Please refer to the
Events page of our
website for dates and times of our dances and BBQ’s.
Children’s Link is proud to host a “Revitalize”
day in recognition of the contributions that family
members / unpaid caregivers offer to their loved one
with the special need. This is a special day to
honour and celebrate your efforts and to care for
yourself first. This year, “Revitalize” is on
June 7 at Rafter 6 Ranch in the spectacular Rocky
Mountains! Please contact our office at
403-230-9158.
The Annual General Meeting is
always held at a venue that is family friendly since
we believe that it provides another opportunity for
families to connect with other families and
children. This year, our AGM will be hosted at the
Telus World of Science in Calgary on June 9, 2009.
Please note, transportation and child care must
never be a barrier to access any of our programs or
events. Children’s Link Society has an account with
a taxi company and we will always make arrangements
for families to have rides to and from our
activities as well as assisting with child care
needs.
We
are excited to announce that in the coming weeks,
Children’s Link will be accessible on
Facebook. We also intend to host a blog and have
a bulletin board for posting questions and
discussions for our viewers and contacts that may
access us online. As events and activities happen at
Children’s Link, we will be posting video segments
on YouTube for the greater online community to enjoy
and learn from.
