The main focus of the resource
service is to make information readily available to
families of children with special needs. We
recognize that this is difficult for some families.
Staff and volunteers provide
helpful guidelines for accessing services, assist
with referral procedures if necessary, and will make
the actual connection with a service provider if
required. A follow-up procedure is also in place.
Contact with The Children's Link Society is
voluntary and at no cost to families.
It is open to families,
professionals and others seeking information about
supports, services, treatments, and programs for
children with special needs and their families.
The Children's Link Society focuses on the needs of
the child within the context of his/her family and
community. We believe that it is only through
enabling and empowering families as key agents of
change for both their child and society, that
children with special needs will have an opportunity
to achieve their maximum potential as
fully-participating members of their communities.
Our resource service does not duplicate but
enhances existing services within the Calgary and
Area.
We are staffed and governed primarily by parents of
children with special needs. Families have been and
will continue to be the driving force behind The
Children's Link Society. But we recognize and
respect the equally important role of professionals
in the lives of our children and endeavour to
reflect that through positions on our Board,
community partnerships and other community-based
initiatives.
